AGOTA CONSTITUTION, OBJECTIVES AND MEMBERSHIP ARTICLE 1 – NAME OF THE ASSOCIATION: a. The name of the Association shall be – “The Association of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians of Tanzania†(abbreviated as “AGOTAâ€.) ARTICLE 2 – REGISTRATION: a. The Association shall be registered as a voluntary Non-Profit making organization under the Laws and Regulations governing such organizations in Tanzania. b. The Registered Office of the Association shall be situated in Dar es Salaam. ARTICLE 3 – OBJECTS: The objects of the Association shall be:- a. To promote by all possible means and at all times, the attainment of the highest possible physical and mental well being of women, expectant mothers and their new born babies. b. To promote the exchange of ideas among those involved in the field and practice of obstetrics and gynaecology in Tanzania through all appropriate means. c. To contribute to improvements of standards of training and practice at all levels in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology in Tanzania. d. To promote scientific research in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology in Tanzania. e. To promote international co-operation with Associations and Societies with similar objectives and to facilitate relationships between the Association and relevant medical and other professional bodies in Tanzania ARTICLE 4 – MEMBERSHIP: a. Full Membership of the association shall include all doctors practicing the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and whose postgraduate qualifications are recognized by the Medical Council of Tanzania. b. Associate Membership: All those undergoing training for post-graduate qualifications in Obstetric and Gynaecology shall be eligible for Associate membership. Save for eligibility to serve on the Executive Council and the right to vote at General Meetings. Associate Members shall have the same rights and duties in relation to the Association as full members. HONORARY: Membership may be extended by appropriate decision of the Association to such other people as may be deemed fit for the Honorary membership shall be made on the prescribed form by not less than two full members. Save for eligibility to serve on the Executive Council and to vote at General Meetings, and honorary member shall have the same rights and duties in relation to the Association as full members. ARTICLE 5 – NEW MEMBERS A doctor who was not a full member of the Association at the time of its creation may become a member provided he fulfils the following conditions:- a. Sends an application in writing on the prescribed form to the Secretary of the Association together with a copy of his credentials showing that he satisfies the requirements set out in Article 4. b. Declares his intention to abide by the constitution of the Association. c. Undertakes to make financial contributions in such form and within time limits as may be decided by the Annual General Meeting. d. The decision to grant or withhold membership is vested in the Executive Council. ARTICLE 6 – LOSS OF MEMBERSHIP: Membership of the Association shall be lost:- a. If a member is prohibited from practicing as a doctor by the Medical Council of Tanzania. b. By withdrawal subject to a period of notice to be fixed by the Bye Laws.
